Following almost seven hours of questioning by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case related to a land fraud, Soren tendered his resignation to Governor CP Radhakrishnan at the Raj Bhavan.

The ruling JMM-Congress-RJD alliance has recommended Champai Soren, a senior JMM politician, as the new chief minister, according to state Congress president Rajesh Thakur. Earlier, lawmakers assembled at the CM's mansion picked Champai Soren to lead the JMM legislative party.
According to party spokesperson Vinod Pandey, there is a general consensus on Champai Soren. Previously, there were suspicions that Hemant Soren's wife Kalpana might be proposed as the new Chief Minister.
