An accident at Gokulpuri Metro Station Delhi
The Gokulpuri Metro Station in Delhi is temporarily closed. Two DMRC personnel have been suspended pending an investigation.A portion of the boundary wall at Delhi's Gokulpuri Metro Station collapsed Thursday morning, killing one person and injuring four others.Following the event, five people were admitted to GTB Hospital, one of whom was certified dead, while four others are still receiving treatment. The dead has been named as Vinod Kumar, a 53-year-old Karawal Nagar inhabitant.
Officials said the incident occurred around 11 a.m., when a portion of the metro station's eastern perimeter wall collapsed onto the road.
Joy Tirkey, DCP (Northeast), said, "Four people were injured, while one person got trapped under the debris and was seriously injured, while others sustained minor injuries." Several bikes were also damaged in the event.Officials added that with the assistance of the public, officers were able to effectively rescue the person trapped beneath the debris. "He was on a scooter at the time of the event. "He was taken to GTB Hospital," DCP stated.DCP Tirkey stated that an inquiry into the situation is underway, and a case will be filed under the appropriate provisions.Atul Garg, chief of the Delhi Fire Service, said they received a call around 11 a.m. and sent four fire tenders to the scene. Firefighters rescued two injured people while two others were already taken to the hospital by the public.
A Delhi Fire Service unit and police officers remain on the scene.
According to a statement from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), two DMRC workers, one manager in the civil department and one junior engineer, have been suspended pending an inquiry. DMRC would also pay 50,000 rupees for minor injuries, 2.5 lakh rupees for major injuries, and 15 lakh rupees to the relatives of the deceased.
Gokulpuri Metro Station, on the Pink Line, has been temporarily closed. Trains run from Maujpur to Shiv Vihar on a single line. According to DMRC, train services on the remaining Pink Line are functioning properly.
