Orlando Pirates are said to be in the final stages of securing a transfer deal for Thembinkosi Lorch, the playmaker from Mamelodi Sundowns. Concurrently, the club has officially signed Tashreek Mathuys, a highly regarded player from Ajax Serious.
Lorch, a cherished favorite among Sundowns fans, has been a topic of transfer discussions for the past six months. Internal sources from the Pirates indicate that Lorch has communicated his intention to leave before the closure of the transfer window. While personal terms with Mathuys are believed to be settled, the completion of the transfer hinges on ongoing negotiations between the two teams.
Sundowns has successfully finalized terms with the 23-year-old Mathuys. The forward, who showcased an impressive performance with 11 goals and 10 assists in 33 games for Olsvenskan last season, is presently undergoing a medical examination in Denmark, approximately an hour away from his base in Sweden.
Rulani Mokwena's team has bolstered its roster with the acquisitions of right-back Zuko Madunelwa from Chippa United and playmaker Matias Esquivel from Club Atletico Lanus. Esquivel's inclusion is particularly important for Sundowns as he fills free by Hashim Domingo, increasing the team's quality.
Initially considering the transfer of 32-year-old South African international Lars Veldwijk, Sundowns has now decided against signing him, citing internal disagreements within the technical team regarding his potential role in the squad. Despite contemplating a short-term deal with Veldwijk, who became a free agent after leaving the A-League, the club ultimately opted not to proceed with the signing.
