"Tragedy Strikes at Kalkaji Temple: Woman Killed and 17 Injured in Platform Collapse During Religious Event"

 A woman was killed and 17 others injured after a platform collapsed during a religious event at Delhi's Kalkaji Temple on Saturday around midnight. The police have filed charges against the organizers, that no permit was given to claim on the stage for the event. Two persons in one automobile transported the woman to the hospital, but she was certified dead upon arrival.  She is not identified till now. 


The injured people have been admitted to AIIMS Trauma Center, Safdarjung Hospital, and Max Hospital. Some who had fractures are presently in stable condition. The incident happened during the 'Jagran,' a Hindu ritual that includes nightlong devotion, singing, dance, and prayers at the temple. 


The incident occurred as excited fans climbed the stage while  Indian singer and music producer B Prak was playing. The stage collapsed by the weight, causing this incident. 
Southeast Delhi's DCP Rajesh Dev told India Today that the organizers had increased the scope of the event, which has been held at Kalkaji Temple for 26 years. Approximately 1,500 to 1,600 people assembled on Saturday at midnight, with no permit provided for the event. However, Dev stated that a significant police presence was deployed on the temple grounds to preserve law and order.


Dev went on to describe that a raised platform was built near the main stage within the temple for the organizers and VIP families to sit on, made of wooden and iron frameworks.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has offered his sorrow over the event.
